The Regional Extension Center (REC) has the goal of assisting at least 1,000 Priority Primary Care Providers (PCP) in Maryland. We have surpassed our goal, having now signed up 1,435 providers. We lead all RECs in contracted providers (as a percent of target).
The REC partners with state-designated Management Service Organizations (MSOs) to provide the direct assistance to practices, serving as our “boots on the ground.” The program currently partners with 17 MSOs, which range from non-profits to small businesses to community hospitals.
The REC program has primarily been focused on helping small practices. More than 50% of the practices we serve consist of 10 providers or fewer. We are also focused on providing support to practices located in medically underserved areas throughout Maryland.
